Thats why we choose SIP as an open standard for comms, means later kit works with earlier kit

Even more of an issue is that technology and companies change more rapidly than the ROI. Radio technology in particular chosen today will likely be 'EOL' or the company gone within 3 years.

I believe for most companies it's the ability to "re-use" comms kit quickly and easily. Return on capital investment is what I believe people are looking for.
